Bridge Assessments and Inspections
Undertaking Bridge Assessment and Inspections of bridges on behalf of Edinburgh City Council. Structure included Grade A listed historic structures, rail overbridges, road, cycle path and footbridges. Designing and implementing strengthening works and replacement structures.
Our Role in the Project
We undertook numerous inspections and assessments of Edinburgh Council’s bridge stock. The bridges included Listed structures, masonry arches, railway over-bridges and footpath/ cyclepath structures. The capacity of the structures was assessed in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges. Designs were undertaken for structures requiring strengthening measures or replacement, contracts written and the projects tendered. We then undertook execution of the projects including tender award and site supervision. Project value were up to £1 million.
Projects included the installation of a corrugated arch to strengthen an old rail bridge at Pinkhill, a multispan timber footbridge at Powderhall and refurbishment of twelve bridges in Leith and Colinton.
We also undertook Development Control works, the review of proposals submitted by Developers proposals for structures that carry or support the public highway.
Projects were undertaken for the Client over a number of years, proving the capacity of existing bridge stock and delivering durable strengthening works and replacement structures.
